Continue Breastfeeding Comfortably—Gentle Support for Sore Nipples & Latching Challenges
The Problem: Your nipples are cracked, bleeding, and excruciatingly painful from breastfeeding. Or your baby can't latch properly due to flat or inverted nipples. You're worried about having to stop breastfeeding entirely, but you need relief and support to continue nursing.
The Solution: Breastfeeding Nipple Shields provide gentle, temporary support when you need it most. Ultra-thin silicone protects sore nipples during feeds while helping babies with latching difficulties. The butterfly cut-out design maintains crucial skin-to-skin contact for bonding while milk flows through small holes—giving you the support you need to continue your breastfeeding journey.
Why Nursing Mums Choose Nipple Shields
- Ultra-Thin, Flexible Silicone: Soft, flexible material feels natural for baby while protecting your sore, damaged nipples from direct contact and friction.
- Butterfly Cut-Out Design: Thoughtful cut-outs for baby's nose and chin maintain close skin-to-skin contact for bonding and milk flow stimulation.
- Helps With Latching Difficulties: Provides a larger, firmer surface for babies with flat/inverted nipples, premature babies, or those transitioning from bottle to breast.
- Protects Sore, Cracked Nipples: Creates a barrier between baby's mouth and damaged nipples, allowing you to continue nursing while nipples heal.
- Milk Flows Through Small Holes: Perforations allow milk to flow naturally while shield protects your nipple.
- 2-Pack for Convenience: Always have a clean shield ready. Use one while washing the other.
- BPA-Free, Food-Safe Silicone: Safe for baby from first use. No harmful chemicals.
- Easy to Clean & Sterilize: Simple to wash and sterilize between feeds.
When to Use Nipple Shields
- Sore or Damaged Nipples: Cracked, bleeding, or extremely painful nipples that make nursing unbearable
- Flat or Inverted Nipples: When baby can't latch onto flat or inverted nipples without assistance
- Latching Challenges: Baby has difficulty achieving proper latch due to tongue-tie, lip-tie, or other issues
- Premature Babies: Smaller or weaker babies who need extra support to latch and feed effectively
- Bottle to Breast Transition: Helping bottle-fed babies transition to breastfeeding
- Short-Term Use: Once mature milk has come in (2-5 days post-birth) and you need temporary support

How to Use Your Nipple Shield
- Choose the Right Size: Proper fit is crucial. Shield should cover nipple and areola without being too tight or too loose. Consult lactation consultant if unsure.
- Apply Breast Milk: Put a few drops of breast milk inside shield and on tip to encourage baby to latch and create suction.
- Position the Shield: Stretch shield over your nipple, ensuring it covers nipple and part of areola. Align cut-outs for baby's nose and chin.
- Help Baby Latch: Bring baby to breast and help them latch onto shield as you would for normal breastfeeding.
- Check for Good Latch: Baby's mouth should be wide with lips over the brim, chin touching breast, jaw moving rhythmically.
- Monitor Milk Transfer: You should see milk visible in shield after feed, indicating baby is transferring milk effectively.
Signs of a Good Latch with Shield
- Baby's mouth is wide open with lips flanged over the shield brim
- Baby's chin is touching your breast
- Baby's jaw is moving rhythmically (not just sucking on tip)
- No pain or rubbing for mum during feed
- Milk is visible in shield after feed
- Baby seems satisfied after feeding
Cleaning & Care Instructions
- Rinse shield in cold water immediately after use
- Wash with hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly
- Sterilize by boiling for 5 minutes or using steam sterilizer
- Dry with clean towel or paper towel
- Store in clean, covered container
- Inspect regularly for tears, cracks, or damage and replace if needed
Weaning Off Nipple Shields
Nipple shields are meant to be a temporary aid. Work with a lactation consultant to address underlying latching issues. Tips for weaning:
- Try removing shield mid-feed when baby is relaxed and milk is flowing
- Offer breast without shield when baby is calm or sleepy (not frantically hungry)
- Encourage lots of skin-to-skin contact to promote natural latching
- Be patient—every feed without the shield is progress, even if baby doesn't finish
- Seek support from lactation consultant for personalized weaning plan
